Steps for the synthesis of 3-amino-4-hydroxybenzonitrile: 4-hydroxy-3-nitrobenzonitrile (10 g, 61 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (200 mL) at room temperature and 5% Pd/activated carbon catalyst (0.5 g) was added. Hydrogen was continuously passed into the reaction system via a hydrogen balloon for 24 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated to afford the target product 3-amino-4-hydroxybenzonitrile (8.2 g, 100% yield).
