Description
Potassium canrenoate is a competitive aldosterone antagonist. It has been shown to counteract the effects of aldosterone-induced blood pressure increases in animals with high sodium intake. Potassium canrenoate is clinically used for its anti-fibrotic effects and has been shown to reduce cardiovascular fibrosis in animal models. At higher concentrations, however, potassium canrenoate has been found to produce genotoxic effects to the liver and an increase in tumor incidence studies with rodents.
