What is D-Calcium pantothenate?

Feb 25,2020

D-Calcium pantothenate (D-(+)-Pantothenic acid calcium salt; (+)-PANTOTHENIC ACID CALCIUMSALT; PANTOTHENIC ACID CALCIUM SALT; (R)-(+)-N-(2,4-DIHYDROXY-3,3-DIMETHYL-1-OXOBUTYL)-BETA-ALANINEHEMICALC-IUM SALT; VITAMIN B5; VITAMIN B3/B5; beta-alanine,n-(2,4-dihydroxy- 3,3-dimethyl-1-oxobutyl)-,calcium salt; C18H32CaN2O10), known as pantothenic acid, is a typical nutritional fortification substance of the B-complex vitamins that can participate the basic metabolism and the synthesis of fatty acids of body, and promote the synthesis of antibodies and promote the absorption and utilization of various nutrients of body [1]. Thus, it is widely applicated in feed additives, pharmaceuticals and food industries with a scale of several thousand tons per year, and demand for D-calcium pantothenate continue to increase.

D-Calcium pantothenate as components of coenzyme A regulates the metabolism of protein, saccharide, and fat, and prevents diseases, which is indispensable substance for growth and development of domesticated creatures and fishes, for fatty synthesis and decomposition [2]. The lack of D-calcium pantothenate would result in the slow growth of poultry and the malfunction of reproduction mechanisms. Therefore, D-calcium pantothenate as a growth factor is used in feed additives. In addition, D-calcium pantothenate is also as food enrichment widely used in food industries, sun as breakfast cereals, beverages, dietetic, and baby foods [3].

D-Calcium pantothenate has the function of making antibodies and it plays an important role in the fight against pressure to maintain hair, skin and blood health, and also contributes to improving the deficiency and neuritis. Thus, it has broad medical value and has been applied in pharmaceutical industries that single-dose is used for pantothenic acid deficiency, complex of vitamins B and multivitamins are used for vitamin supplement, and other compounds with different components are widely used for gastrointestinal diseases, respiratory diseases, skin diseases, mental inactivity, neurasthenia, and so on [4]. For example, D-calcium pantothenate is used in skin care products that can alleviate itching, help to keep the skin moist and supple, stimulate cell growth, and accelerate wound healing by increasing the fibroblast content of scar tissue [5]. D-Calcium pantothenate is applied in moisturizer and conditioner in hair care products that protect hair against chemical and mechanical damage caused by perming, coloring, and shampooing [6]. D-Calcium pantothenate can be used as to cure chronic discoid, disseminate discoid, or subacute disseminate lupus erythematosus [7]. Moreover, D-calcium pantothenate also used in health-care food for adults vitamin supplement and promoting healthy growth and development of children.

In conclusion, D-calcium pantothenate as a member of the vitamin B family is essential for animals and human beings, and widely used in animal feed, nutrient supplements, pharmaceutical industries and other fields.
