Jan 19,2020

5-Sulfosalicylic Acid dihydrate (Benzoicacid, 2-hydroxy-5-sulfo-, dihydrate; Salicylic acid, 5-sulfo-, dihydrate; 5-Sulfosalicylic acid dihydrate, ACS, 99.0% min.; 5-SULFOSALICYLIC ACID DIHYDRATE ELEC; 5-Sulfosalicylic acid dihydrate, p.a.; 5-SULFOSALICYLIC ACID DIHYDRATE ACS REAGENT; 5-SULFOSALICYLIC ACID DIHYDRATE, REAGENTPLUS TM, >= 99%; 5-SULFOSALICYLIC ACID DIHYDRATE, FOR ELE CTROPHORESIS)[1] is an important chemical compound used widely in a filed of chemical practice. At the same time, in a field of extraction applications, it could also be used. For example, Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are synthetic antimicrobial agents with a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-negative bacteria and some Gram-positive bacteria. Since the last century, FQs have been widely used in the treatment of livestock and in aquaculture, as well as in humans. The residues of these antibiotics in animal-origin foodstuffs have generated growing concern of drug-resistance and human health problems. Therefore, most countries or areas, including the European Union, the U.S., and China have established maximum residue levels (MRLs) for enrofloxacin and other FQs in various foodstuffs. Meanwhile, there is an increasing demand to develop much simpler, more rapid, and more economical analytical techniques to monitor these residues effectively. Menqi Cui et al.[2] have found thay Fishery samples were extracted with 2% of 5-sulfosalicylic acid dihydrate and the extracts were analyzed directly without any further purification or clean up procedures.  This extraction procedure was much rapider and simpler to conventional ELISA extraction procedure and could be used as a time-saving and cost-effective method for FQs monitoring in fishery samples.

In addition, 5-Sulfosalicylic Acid dihydrate could be used in other aspects. For example, K. Ezhilmathi et al.[3] have studied the effect of 5-sulfosalicylic acid on antioxidant activity in relation to vase life of Gladiolus cut flowers. In another hands, some studies on ligands containing different coordinating groups have been reported, and more and more researchers are interested in the coordination polymers containing such kinds of ligands. On the basis of its structure, 5-sulfosalicylic acid has three potential coordinating groups -OH, -CO2H and-SO3H. Both -CO2H and -SO3H are versatile coordinating groups and can coordinate to metal in a variety of modes.[4]
