What is 2-Acetylthiophene used for?

2-Acetylthiophene is a multi-functional small-molecule compound that can react with various chemical reagents to synthesise other heterocyclic compounds, while also serving as a common subject for structural analysis research. It is widely employed in thermochemical, physical, molecular mechanics, and spectroscopic experimental studies. Under Vilsmeier reaction conditions, 2-acetylthiophene can be used to synthesise β-chloro-β-(2-thienyl)acrolein or N,N-dimethyl-2-thienylformamide. It may also react with phosphorus pentachloride to yield 2-(2-thienyl)-2-chloroethyl phosphonic acid.
