What does Diphenyl ether do?
Introduction of Diphenyl ether
Diphenyl ether (IUPAC name: phenoxybenzene) is a colourless liquid, an aromatic ether with a mild pleasant odour. It may float or sink. The freezing point is 81 °F. It is found in grapes and mangoes. It is used as a carrier for common dyes, as a flavouring agent in food additives, as a heat transfer medium Dowtherm A and as a chemical intermediate in surfactants and lubricants, as a processing aid in polyester production, and several polybrominated derivatives of diphenyl ether are used as flame retardants. In addition, it has recently been reported that diphenyl ethers can be used for the synthesis of novel fluorescent low molecular weight organogels for the preparation of innovative nano-feathered assemblies, and the anti-microbial cytotoxicity properties of diphenyl ether-derived organogels have also been investigated.
