Treatment effects and side effects of Hydroxypropyl cellulose on eyes
Treatment effects
Hydroxypropyl cellulose is a prescription medication that is similar to human tears in its ability to moisturise the eyes and is known as an artificial tear medication. It is used to treat moderate to severe dry eye conditions, including dry keratoconjunctivitis. It is indicated for dry eyes caused by insufficient tear production, infrequent blinking, smoke, wind, pollution, prolonged use of computer screens or television, medication, or dry atmospheric conditions. When implanted in the eye, it can be used to relieve symptoms of dryness and irritation caused by reduced tear flow due to certain eye diseases.
Side effects
Common side effects of Hydroxypropyl cellulose include: eye discomfort/irritation/redness, tearing pain, eye sensitivity to light, sticky eyelashes, temporary blurred vision, or eyelid swelling. Serious side effects include: eye redness/irritation that does not go away, persistent eye pain, swelling in or around the eye, and changes in vision. Serious allergic reactions are rare. Contact your doctor if any of these serious adverse reactions occur.
