NaF is useful as the transmission window and as the Reststrahlen filter. NaF is soluble in water with the solubility of 4.22 g/100 g H2O (188C).
Crystal System
The space lattice of NaF belongs to the cubic system, and its rock salt structure has a lattice constant of a=0.4620 nm and Na–F=0.231 nm. The cleavage plane is (100). A few times, samples with the tetragonal system are obtained.
Production
The material is synthesized by the Kyropoulus method and the Stockbarger method. Thin films are deposited by the vacuum evaporation using a boat or a crucible of Mo. The deposition on the glass is not so strong.
