Is 3-Amino-1,2,4-Triazole an enzyme inhibitor of catalase?

Yes. 3-Amino-1,2,4-Triazole (3-AT) is a known catalase inhibitor that specifically and irreversibly binds to the active site of catalase, preventing it from decomposing hydrogen peroxide. This inhibition can be used to study the role of catalase in cellular processes. In vitro experiments show that diluted 3-AT binds to widely distributed heat-stable factors (HSF), thereby reducing the activity of crystalline catalase. Alcohol-treated HSF prevents the inhibitory effect of the HSF-AT system on catalase.
