Applications
2,5-Bis(5-tert-butyl-2-benzoxazolyl)thiophene has been utilized as a high concentration fluorescent dopant in thin nano-porous silica films through a sol-gel process. The resulting hybrid films exhibit uniform and bright blue fluorescence, with photoluminescence intensity increasing linearly with 2,5-Bis(5-tert-butyl-2-benzoxazolyl)thiophene concentration. Optical microscopy showed no molecular aggregation or phase separation at concentrations below 6 x 10(-3) mol x L(-1). Surprisingly, fluorescence lifetimes of 2,5-Bis(5-tert-butyl-2-benzoxazolyl)thiophene in the silica films were longer than in dilute dioxane solution, and varied with gelation conditions. The absence of concentration quenching in 2,5-Bis(5-tert-butyl-2-benzoxazolyl)thiophene -doped silica matrices was attributed to the suppression of molecular interactions by the nano-porous structure. This study demonstrates the stability and effectiveness of 2,5-Bis(5-tert-butyl-2-benzoxazolyl)thiophene -doped silica hybrid materials as a viable option for fluorescent material applications. The unique properties observed in these materials may open new avenues in the development of highly efficient optoelectronic devices, such as sensors and displays, that require stable and long-lasting fluorescence emission. 2
