硫酸软骨素是从鸡软骨中提取制备的酸性粘多糖，主要是硫酸软骨素C。

硫酸软骨素广泛存在于动物的软骨组织中，在骨腱、韧带、皮肤、角膜等组织中也有。

在软骨中，硫酸软骨素与蛋白质结合成蛋白多糖，并与胶原蛋白结合在一起。
硫酸软骨素纳为白色或类白色的粉末，有引湿性，水中易溶，丙酮和96%乙醇中几乎不溶。
