In the field of materials chemistry, Hexadecanolide is commonly applied in ring-opening polymerization reactions, where it can be efficiently catalyzed by lipases and other biocatalysts at high polymerization rates to form high-molecular-weight polyester materials, possessing certain research value in green chemistry and biodegradable polymer synthesis.
