Xenin-8 is the C-terminal sequence of Xenin and the biologically active fragment of Xenin. It is a peptide composed of 8 amino acids, mainly used as a neurotensin like peptide to regulate pancreatic insulin and glucagon secretion/action. Xenin belongs to the neurotensin/xenopsin family of peptides. Xenin-8 stimulates basal insulin secretion and enhances insulin response to glucose in a dose-dependent manner (EC50=0.16 nM).
