Icatibant is a selective competitive antagonist of the bradykinin type 2 (B2) receptor, a decapeptide with a structure similar to bradykinin, consisting of five non protein derived amino acids. The European Union approved the marketing of ateban as early as November 1, 2010, for the treatment of acute attacks of hereditary angioedema (HAE).
