Cm-CATH2 is an antimicrobial peptide discovered in green sea turtles, composed of 33 amino acids. It exhibits potent, broad-spectrum, and rapid bactericidal activity by rapidly disrupting the integrity of bacterial cell membranes, demonstrating strong efficacy against Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., VREF, Staphylococcus aureus), Gram-negative bacteria (e.g., Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae), and fungi (e.g., Candida albicans), with an MIC ranging from 1.17 to 18.75 μg/mL. Cm-CATH2 is also effective against various aquatic pathogens. Not only does it inhibit biofilm formation, but it can also remove established biofilms. Cm-CATH2 possesses immunomodulatory functions and immune cell chemotactic effects, suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokine production in macrophages stimulated by LPS (HY-D1056). By inhibiting the degradation of IκBα, Cm-CATH2 prevents NF-κB activation while simultaneously blocking the phosphorylation of the MAPK signaling pathway (p38, JNK, ERK). Cm-CATH2 demonstrates robust anti-infection capabilities in both mouse peritonitis and pneumonia models.
