Evolocumab is a fully human monoclonal IgG2 antibody approved for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and the reduction of cardiovascular risk. It belongs to the class of PCSK9 (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9) inhibitors. Evolocumab functions as a high-affinity ligand trap for PCSK9 in the bloodstream. By binding to circulating PCSK9, it prevents PCSK9 from interacting with the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) on the surface of liver cells.
