Peptide M originates from the M protein of streptococcus and can bind to monomeric and dimeric IgA, including IgA1 and IgA2. It contains a sequence of 18 amino acids. The peptide M sequence has a relatively high proportion of hydrophobic amino acids, resulting in poor water solubility of the peptide. Additionally, β-sheet formation is prone to occur during peptide synthesis.
