The BAT5 antibody, often associated with B-cell research, targets specific antigens expressed during early B-cell development. Primarily used in immunophenotyping, it helps identify precursor B-cells in hematopoietic tissues, such as bone marrow. BAT5 is particularly recognized for detecting cytoplasmic immunoglobulin heavy chains (μ chains) in pre-B cells, a critical marker in B-cell maturation. This antibody is widely employed in diagnosing B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), where malignant cells often retain early differentiation markers.

Developed as a tool for flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry, BAT5 aids in distinguishing normal B-cell precursors from leukemic blasts. Its reactivity is species-specific, typically optimized for human samples. Studies using BAT5 have contributed to understanding B-cell ontogeny and clonal malignancies, offering insights into minimal residual disease monitoring.
