Gamma tubulin is a conserved member of the tubulin superfamily, primarily localized at microtubule-organizing centers (MTOCs) such as centrosomes. It plays a critical role in microtubule nucleation and spindle formation during cell division by serving as a structural platform for γ-tubulin ring complexes (γ-TuRCs). These complexes template the assembly of α/β-tubulin dimers into microtubules, essential for maintaining cell shape, intracellular transport, and chromosomal segregation. Dysregulation of gamma tubulin is linked to mitotic errors, genomic instability, and diseases including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.

Gamma tubulin antibodies are indispensable tools for studying MTOC dynamics, cell cycle regulation, and microtubule-related pathologies. Commonly used in immunofluorescence, Western blotting, and immunoprecipitation, these antibodies help visualize gamma tubulin distribution in mitotic structures, cilia, or centrosome abnormalities.
