The Phospho-Tau (Ser202) antibody is a critical tool in neuroscience research, particularly for studying tauopathies like Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Tau is a microtubule-associated protein that stabilizes neuronal microtubules under normal conditions. Its dysfunction, often linked to abnormal phosphorylation, disrupts microtubule stability and promotes pathological aggregation into neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), a hallmark of AD. Phosphorylation at specific residues, including serine 202 (Ser202), is a key regulatory mechanism influencing tau’s microtubule-binding affinity and aggregation propensity.

The Phospho-Tau (Ser202) antibody specifically detects tau phosphorylated at Ser202. a site hyperphosphorylated in pathological conditions. This epitope is part of the paired helical filament (PHF) tau found in NFTs and is recognized by the widely used AT8 antibody. Elevated phosphorylation at Ser202 correlates with disease progression, making this antibody valuable for diagnosing tauopathies, monitoring pathological changes in models, and evaluating therapeutic interventions targeting tau phosphorylation.
