The Erlin-2 antibody is a tool used to study Erlin-2. a protein encoded by the *SPFH2* gene in humans. Erlin-2. along with Erlin-1. forms part of the Erlin1/2 complex, which localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane. This complex is implicated in ER-associated degradation (ERAD), a quality control pathway that targets misfolded proteins for proteasomal degradation. Specifically, Erlin-2 has been linked to the regulation of inositol 1.4.5-trisphosphate receptors (IP3Rs), calcium signaling, and cholesterol homeostasis.

Research highlights Erlin-2's role in binding and facilitating the degradation of activated IP3Rs, thereby modulating intracellular calcium dynamics. Dysregulation of Erlin-2 has been associated with neurological disorders, including hereditary spastic paraplegia (SPG18 subtype) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Antibodies against Erlin-2 enable the detection, quantification, and localization of the protein in cellular and tissue samples, aiding investigations into its physiological and pathological functions.
