Cytokeratin 12 (CK12) is a type I intermediate filament protein primarily expressed in the corneal epithelium, where it pairs with Cytokeratin 3 (CK3) to form a structural network critical for maintaining cellular integrity and mechanical resilience. As a marker of differentiated corneal epithelial cells, CK12 plays a vital role in preserving corneal transparency and function. Antibodies targeting CK12 are essential tools in both research and diagnostics, enabling the identification and study of corneal epithelial cells in health and disease.
