Myogenin, a member of the myogenic regulatory factor (MRF) family, is a key transcription factor regulating skeletal muscle development and differentiation. Encoded by the *MYOG* gene, it belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) superfamily and partners with E-proteins to activate muscle-specific gene expression. Myogenin is essential for myoblast fusion into multinucleated myotubes during embryogenesis and muscle regeneration, with its expression tightly linked to terminal differentiation stages.

Myogenin antibodies are widely used in research and diagnostics to detect myogenin protein levels, primarily via immunohistochemistry (IHC), Western blotting, or immunofluorescence. These antibodies help identify myogenic cells in developmental studies, muscle injury models, and stem cell differentiation assays. Clinically, myogenin IHC is a diagnostic marker for alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a pediatric soft tissue cancer, where nuclear staining distinguishes it from other small round blue cell tumors.

Recent studies also explore myogenin's role in muscle atrophy, metabolic disorders, and regenerative therapies. Antibody specificity is critical, as cross-reactivity with other MRFs (e.g., MyoD, Myf5) can occur. Validated myogenin antibodies enable precise tracking of muscle lineage commitment, offering insights into muscular dystrophies, sarcopenia, and therapeutic strategies for muscle repair.
