KAT1/HAT1 (Histone Acetyltransferase 1) is a conserved enzyme involved in chromatin modification and epigenetic regulation. As a member of the type B histone acetyltransferase family, HAT1 catalyzes the acetylation of lysine residues on newly synthesized histone H4. particularly at lysine 12 (H4K12), which is critical for chromatin assembly during DNA replication and repair. This enzyme operates in the cytoplasm, where it acetylates free histones prior to their incorporation into nucleosomes, ensuring proper chromatin structure and gene expression regulation.
