The p70 S6 Kinase beta (p70S6Kβ), also known as S6K2. is a serine/threonine kinase belonging to the AGC family, which plays a critical role in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. This pathway regulates cell growth, proliferation, and survival in response to nutrients, growth factors, and cellular stress. p70S6Kβ shares structural homology with its isoform p70S6Kα (S6K1) but exhibits distinct tissue-specific expression patterns and subcellular localization. It is activated via phosphorylation by mTORC1 and PDK1. facilitating downstream processes such as ribosome biogenesis, protein synthesis, and cell cycle progression by phosphorylating targets like the ribosomal protein S6.
