The RING2/RING1B/RNF2 antibody targets proteins central to Polycomb group (PcG) complexes, which regulate gene silencing through epigenetic mechanisms. RING1B (also known as RNF2 or RING2) is a core catalytic component of Polycomb Repressive Complex 1 (PRC1). It mediates monoubiquitination of histone H2A at lysine 119 (H2AK119ub1), a hallmark of transcriptionally repressive chromatin. This modification facilitates chromatin compaction and collaborates with PRC2-mediated H3K27me3 to maintain long-term gene silencing, critical for cell differentiation, development, and stem cell pluripotency.

Antibodies against RING1B/RNF2 are widely used to study PRC1's role in epigenetic regulation, including its involvement in X-chromosome inactivation, genomic imprinting, and cell cycle control.
