PCBP1 (Poly(rC)-Binding Protein 1), also known as hnRNP E1 or αCP1. is a member of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) family. It is a multifunctional RNA-binding protein involved in post-transcriptional gene regulation, including mRNA stability, translation, and splicing. PCBP1 binds to poly(rC)-rich sequences in target RNAs through its KH (K-homology) domains, facilitating interactions with transcripts critical for cellular processes like iron homeostasis, stress responses, and viral replication.
