HMGA1 (High Mobility Group AT-Hook 1) is a non-histone chromatin protein involved in regulating DNA architecture and gene expression. It binds to AT-rich regions of DNA, modulating transcriptional activity by altering chromatin structure or facilitating the assembly of multiprotein complexes. HMGA1 is highly expressed during embryogenesis but is typically low or absent in most adult tissues. Dysregulation of HMGA1. particularly overexpression, is strongly associated with cancer progression, metastasis, and therapy resistance, making it a biomarker of interest in malignancies like breast, colon, and pancreatic cancers.

HMGA1 antibodies are essential tools for detecting and quantifying HMGA1 protein levels in research and diagnostics. They are widely used in techniques such as Western blotting, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and immunofluorescence to study HMGA1's role in tumorigenesis, epigenetic regulation, and cellular differentiation. These antibodies can differentiate between HMGA1 isoforms (HMGA1a and HMGA1b) or detect pan-HMGA1. depending on their design. Validation of specificity is critical, as cross-reactivity with related proteins (e.g., HMGA2) may occur. Commercially available HMGA1 antibodies are typically raised in rabbits or mice, with monoclonal and polyclonal variants offering distinct advantages in sensitivity and application flexibility. Recent studies also explore HMGA1's involvement in metabolic disorders and inflammatory diseases, expanding its therapeutic and diagnostic relevance.
