The DAZL (Deleted in Azoospermia-Like) antibody is a critical tool for studying germ cell development and reproductive biology. DAZL, a member of the DAZ gene family, encodes an RNA-binding protein essential for gametogenesis in both males and females. It is highly conserved across vertebrates and plays a pivotal role in regulating meiosis, germ cell maturation, and fertility by binding to target mRNAs to modulate their translation. DAZL is predominantly expressed in germ cells, making it a key marker for tracking germline development in models ranging from humans to zebrafish.

DAZL antibodies are widely used in research to detect and localize DAZL protein expression in tissues, embryos, or in vitro cell cultures. They enable investigations into germ cell specification, infertility mechanisms, and the differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into germline lineages. Mutations or deficiencies in DAZL are linked to human infertility, particularly non-obstructive azoospermia in males and premature ovarian insufficiency in females. Studies using DAZL antibodies have also advanced reproductive technologies, such as in vitro gametogenesis, by identifying molecular pathways critical for germ cell survival and function.
