ERAB (Endoplasmic Reticulum-Associated Amyloid Beta-Binding Protein), also known as HSD17B10 or ABAD, is a mitochondrial enzyme involved in fatty acid metabolism and steroidogenesis. It gained attention due to its interaction with amyloid-beta (Aβ), a peptide implicated in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathogenesis. Studies show ERAB binds Aβ in neuronal mitochondria, disrupting energy metabolism, exacerbating oxidative stress, and promoting apoptosis. This interaction is thought to contribute to Aβ-induced neurotoxicity, making ERAB a potential therapeutic target.

ERAB antibodies are tools developed to detect and study ERAB expression, localization, and its pathological association with Aβ. They enable investigations into ERAB-Aβ complex formation, mitochondrial dysfunction mechanisms, and disease progression in AD models. Such antibodies are used in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence to explore ERAB's role in cellular stress responses and neurodegeneration. Additionally, ERAB-targeting antibodies have been explored for therapeutic potential, aiming to block ERAB-Aβ interactions and mitigate neuronal damage. Research continues to clarify ERAB's dual roles in normal metabolism and disease, highlighting its significance in both basic science and drug development for neurodegenerative disorders.
