PRMT1 (Protein Arginine Methyltransferase 1) is a key enzyme in the protein arginine methylation process, catalyzing the transfer of methyl groups to arginine residues on histone and non-histone substrates. As a member of the PRMT family, PRMT1 primarily mediates asymmetric dimethylation (ADMA) of arginine, a post-translational modification involved in epigenetic regulation, transcriptional activation, and signal transduction. It plays critical roles in DNA repair, RNA processing, and cellular differentiation by modifying histones (e.g., H4R3me2a) and non-histonic proteins like p53. EGFR, and RNA-binding proteins.
