BRG1 (Brahma-related gene 1), encoded by the *SMARCA4* gene, is a core ATPase subunit of the SWI/SNF (SWItch/Sucrose Non-Fermentable) chromatin remodeling complex. This evolutionarily conserved complex regulates gene expression by altering chromatin structure, enabling access to transcriptional machinery. BRG1 plays a critical role in cellular processes, including differentiation, proliferation, and DNA repair. Dysregulation of BRG1 is linked to cancers (e.g., lung, ovarian) and developmental disorders due to its tumor-suppressive functions and involvement in maintaining genomic stability.
