NPPC (Natriuretic Peptide Precursor C) antibodies are tools used to study the biological roles of C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP), a key member of the natriuretic peptide family. CNP, encoded by the NPPC gene, is a paracrine signaling molecule involved in regulating cardiovascular homeostasis, bone growth, and tissue remodeling. It binds to the NPR-B receptor, activating intracellular cGMP signaling pathways that influence cell proliferation, differentiation, and extracellular matrix synthesis. CNP is particularly critical in skeletal development, where it stimulates endochondral ossification, and in vascular tone modulation.

Antibodies targeting NPPC/CNP are widely utilized in research to localize CNP expression in tissues, quantify its levels in biological samples, or inhibit its activity to investigate downstream mechanisms. For instance, they help elucidate CNP's role in conditions like cardiovascular diseases, skeletal dysplasia, and fibrosis. Therapeutic applications are also being explored, such as using neutralizing antibodies to counteract CNP overactivity in pathologies like cancer or inflammatory disorders. However, challenges remain in ensuring antibody specificity, minimizing cross-reactivity with related peptides (e.g., ANP, BNP), and optimizing pharmacokinetics for clinical use. Ongoing studies aim to refine NPPC antibody design to enhance their research and therapeutic potential.
