The KCNK12 antibody targets the KCNK12 protein, a member of the two-pore domain potassium (K2P) channel family, also known as TALK-1 (TWIK-related alkaline pH-activated K+ channel 1). KCNK12 channels are voltage-independent, pH-sensitive potassium channels primarily expressed in pancreatic β-cells and the central nervous system. They play a critical role in regulating cell membrane potential, electrical excitability, and hormone secretion. In pancreatic β-cells, KCNK12 modulates insulin secretion by influencing calcium signaling and cell excitability, making it a potential therapeutic target for diabetes research. Dysfunctional TALK-1 channels have been linked to impaired glucose homeostasis and type 2 diabetes in genetic studies.

KCNK12 antibodies are widely used in biomedical research to investigate channel expression, localization, and functional roles. Applications include Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence to study tissue-specific distribution or disease-related alterations. These antibodies are also employed in electrophysiological studies to validate channel activity when combined with genetic tools like siRNA or CRISPR. Commercially available KCNK12 antibodies vary in host species, clonal specificity (monoclonal/polyclonal), and epitope recognition, requiring validation for target-specific applications. Recent studies highlight its interaction with cellular pH changes and metabolic pathways, emphasizing its relevance in both endocrine and neurological disorders.
