The ITPR2 antibody targets the inositol 1.4.5-trisphosphate receptor type 2 (ITPR2), a calcium channel protein primarily located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). ITPR2 is one of three isoforms (ITPR1-3) that mediate calcium release from the ER into the cytosol upon binding to inositol 1.4.5-trisphosphate (IP3), a critical second messenger in cellular signaling. This receptor plays a key role in regulating processes like cell proliferation, apoptosis, and neurotransmitter release. ITPR2 is highly expressed in tissues such as the liver, pancreas, and central nervous system, and its dysfunction has been linked to metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancers.

Antibodies against ITPR2 are widely used in research to study its expression, localization, and interaction partners. They are essential tools in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence to visualize ITPR2 in cellular or tissue contexts. Additionally, ITPR2 antibodies help investigate pathological mechanisms; for example, altered ITPR2 expression or activity has been associated with type 2 diabetes, Huntington’s disease, and glioblastoma. Commercial ITPR2 antibodies are typically validated for specificity using knockout controls or siRNA knockdown to ensure minimal cross-reactivity with ITPR1 or ITPR3. Recent studies also explore ITPR2's role in calcium signaling crosstalk with other organelles, such as mitochondria, highlighting its broader impact on cellular homeostasis.
