The C4b-binding protein alpha chain (C4BPA) is a key regulatory component of the complement system, a critical part of innate immunity. C4BPA primarily functions in the classical and lectin complement pathways by binding to C4b, a cleavage product of complement component C4. to inhibit the formation of the C3 convertase (C4b2a). This activity prevents excessive complement activation, protecting host tissues from unintended damage.
