The EMC7 (Endoplasmic Reticulum Membrane Protein Complex Subunit 7) antibody is a tool used to study the EMC complex, a conserved multi-subunit transmembrane protein assembly located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). First identified through proteomic studies, the EMC is implicated in membrane protein biogenesis, particularly in the folding, assembly, and quality control of integral membrane proteins. EMC7. one of its core subunits, plays a structural role in maintaining complex stability and facilitating interactions with client proteins. Research suggests EMC7 contributes to ER-associated degradation (ERAD) pathways and modulates ER stress responses.

Antibodies targeting EMC7 enable researchers to investigate its expression, localization, and interactions via techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and co-immunoprecipitation. Studies have linked EMC7 dysregulation to diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and metabolic syndromes, where ER homeostasis is disrupted. For example, elevated EMC7 levels have been observed in certain tumors, potentially reflecting adaptive ER stress mechanisms in proliferating cells. Additionally, EMC7's role in viral replication, particularly for flaviviruses, highlights its broader cellular significance. As a relatively understudied protein, EMC7 antibodies remain critical for unraveling its precise molecular functions and therapeutic potential in pathological contexts.
