UCK2 (uridine-cytidine kinase 2) is a key enzyme in the pyrimidine salvage pathway, responsible for phosphorylating uridine and cytidine to form their respective monophosphates, a critical step in nucleotide synthesis and RNA metabolism. It plays a regulatory role in maintaining cellular nucleotide pools and is implicated in the activation of anticancer prodrugs like gemcitabine. Dysregulation of UCK2 has been linked to various cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma, colorectal cancer, and leukemia, where its overexpression often correlates with tumor progression, poor prognosis, and chemoresistance.

UCK2 antibodies are essential tools for studying the expression, localization, and function of this enzyme in both physiological and pathological contexts. They are widely used in techniques such as Western blotting, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and immunofluorescence (IF) to quantify UCK2 levels in tissues or cell lines, assess its subcellular distribution, and explore its role in cancer biology. Research using UCK2 antibodies has highlighted its potential as a biomarker for cancer diagnosis and as a therapeutic target. For instance, inhibiting UCK2 activity may sensitize cancer cells to chemotherapy. Additionally, studies suggest UCK2 is transcriptionally regulated by p53. linking it to stress response pathways.
