The VAX1 antibody is a tool used to detect the ventral anterior homeobox 1 (VAX1) protein, a transcription factor encoded by the VAX1 gene. VAX1 belongs to the homeobox gene family, which plays critical roles in embryonic development, particularly in the formation of the eyes, forebrain, and craniofacial structures. Studies have linked VAX1 to the regulation of optic nerve and pituitary gland development, as well as facial patterning. Mutations or dysregulation of VAX1 are associated with congenital defects such as microphthalmia, cleft palate, and holoprosencephaly, highlighting its importance in early morphogenesis.

VAX1 antibodies are widely employed in research to investigate neural development, congenital anomalies, and genetic disorders. They enable localization and quantification of VAX1 protein expression in tissues or cells via techniques like immunohistochemistry (IHC), Western blotting, and immunofluorescence. These antibodies are crucial for studying VAX1's interaction with signaling pathways (e.g., Sonic Hedgehog) and its role in stem cell differentiation or tissue regeneration.
