COX17 is a key protein involved in the assembly of cytochrome c oxidase (COX), the terminal enzyme in the mitochondrial electron transport chain responsible for oxidative phosphorylation. As a copper chaperone, COX17 facilitates the delivery of copper ions to the COX complex, which is essential for its catalytic activity. Located primarily in the mitochondrial intermembrane space, COX17 interacts with other assembly factors (e.g., SCO1. SCO2) to ensure proper metallation of COX subunits. Dysregulation of COX17 has been linked to mitochondrial disorders, neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s), and cancer, reflecting its critical role in cellular energy production and redox homeostasis.

COX17 antibodies are vital tools for studying its expression, localization, and function.
