The HSD17B1 antibody is a research tool designed to detect and study 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (HSD17B1), an enzyme critical in steroid hormone metabolism. HSD17B1 belongs to the 17β-HSD enzyme family, which regulates the interconversion of less active and more potent sex steroids. Specifically, HSD17B1 catalyzes the reduction of estrone (E1) to estradiol (E2), the most biologically active estrogen, thereby influencing estrogen-dependent physiological and pathological processes. This enzyme is predominantly expressed in reproductive tissues (e.g., ovaries, placenta) and hormone-responsive cancers (e.g., breast, ovarian), making it a focus in studies of endocrine disorders and malignancies.

HSD17B1 antibodies are widely used in immunohistochemistry (IHC), western blotting (WB), and immunofluorescence (IF) to evaluate protein expression, localization, and regulation in tissues or cell lines. Research highlights its role in hormone-dependent cancer progression, as elevated HSD17B1 levels correlate with increased local estrogen production, tumor growth, and poor prognosis.
