CD5L (CD5 Antigen-Like), also known as APRIL or CD5L, is a secreted glycoprotein belonging to the scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) superfamily. Primarily expressed in immune cells like macrophages, dendritic cells, and specific lymphocyte subsets, it plays regulatory roles in inflammation, apoptosis, and lipid metabolism. Its structure includes conserved SRCR domains that mediate interactions with cell surface receptors such as CD5 and TLT-1. influencing immune signaling pathways.

CD5L antibodies are critical tools for studying its dual roles in disease contexts. In autoimmune disorders (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis), CD5L may suppress excessive inflammation by modulating macrophage activity. Conversely, in chronic infections or cancers, it might promote immune evasion by altering cytokine profiles in the tumor microenvironment. Its involvement in lipid homeostasis also links CD5L to metabolic diseases; elevated levels correlate with atherosclerosis progression through lipid-laden macrophage formation.

Research applications of CD5L antibodies include immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and functional blocking assays to dissect its mechanisms. Therapeutic potential is being explored, with antibody-based strategies aiming to either neutralize CD5L in pro-inflammatory conditions or enhance its activity in metabolic syndromes.
