STEAP1 (Six-Transmembrane Epithelial Antigen of the Prostate 1) is a cell surface protein belonging to the STEAP family, known for its role in metal ion transport and redox processes. Initially identified in prostate tissue, STEAP1 is overexpressed in various cancers, including prostate, bladder, and Ewing sarcoma, while exhibiting limited expression in normal tissues. This tumor-restricted expression has positioned STEAP1 as a promising therapeutic and diagnostic target, particularly for antibody-based strategies.

STEAP1 antibodies are tools or agents designed to specifically bind to STEAP1. enabling applications in research, diagnostics, and therapy. In research, these antibodies help elucidate STEAP1’s biological functions, such as its involvement in iron/copper reduction or cell proliferation pathways. Diagnostically, STEAP1-targeting antibodies can aid in cancer detection or monitoring via imaging or biomarker assays. Therapeutically, STEAP1 antibodies are explored as immunotherapeutic agents, including monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), to selectively deliver cytotoxic payloads or engage immune cells against tumors.

Despite preclinical promise, clinical translation faces challenges, such as optimizing antibody specificity and addressing heterogeneous STEAP1 expression across tumors. Ongoing studies aim to refine targeting strategies and evaluate combinatorial approaches to enhance efficacy.
