The ING1 (Inhibitor of Growth 1) antibody is a research tool targeting the ING1 protein, a member of the ING tumor suppressor family involved in epigenetic regulation, cell cycle control, apoptosis, and DNA repair. Discovered in 1996. ING1 is ubiquitously expressed in tissues and exists as two major splice variants, p47ING1a and p33ING1b, which localize to the nucleus and interact with histone-modifying complexes like histone acetyltransferases (HATs) or histone deacetylases (HDACs). This protein contains a plant homeodomain (PHD) finger critical for chromatin recognition and a nuclear localization signal (NLS).

ING1 antibodies are widely used in Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence to study its expression, subcellular localization, and interactions in cancer research. Reduced ING1 expression or mutations have been linked to various cancers, including breast, gastric, and lymphoid malignancies, suggesting its tumor-suppressive role. These antibodies help elucidate ING1's dual regulatory functions—promoting apoptosis under stress while supporting cell survival under normal conditions. Additionally, they aid in exploring ING1's involvement in senescence, angiogenesis, and responses to DNA damage. Commercial ING1 antibodies are typically validated for specificity against conserved epitopes across human and model organisms, though isoform-specific variants require careful selection. Ongoing studies utilize these reagents to dissect ING1's role in epigenetic dysregulation and therapeutic targeting.
