CRMP1 (Collapsin Response Mediator Protein 1) is a cytosolic phosphoprotein belonging to the CRMP family, primarily expressed in the nervous system. It plays a critical role in neuronal development, including axon guidance, dendritic branching, and neurite outgrowth, by regulating microtubule dynamics and cytoskeletal organization. CRMP1 interacts with signaling pathways triggered by guidance molecules like Semaphorin 3A (Sema3A), which repels growing axons during neural circuit formation. Dysregulation of CRMP1 has been implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, where its altered phosphorylation may contribute to pathological tau protein accumulation.

CRMP1 antibodies are essential tools for studying its expression, localization, and post-translational modifications. These antibodies are widely used in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence to detect CRMP1 in tissue samples or cultured neurons. Commercially available CRMP1 antibodies are typically raised against specific epitopes, such as the N-terminal or C-terminal regions, and validated for species reactivity (e.g., human, mouse, rat). Researchers often use them to explore CRMP1’s role in neurological diseases or its interaction with other proteins in signaling cascades. However, cross-reactivity with other CRMP family members (CRMP2-5) should be carefully assessed due to structural similarities. Recent studies also investigate CRMP1 as a potential biomarker or therapeutic target, emphasizing its relevance in both basic and clinical neuroscience.
