The LETM1 (Leucine zipper-EF-hand containing transmembrane protein 1) antibody is a tool used to detect LETM1. a mitochondrial inner membrane protein critical for ion homeostasis, particularly calcium and pH regulation. LETM1 is ubiquitously expressed and plays roles in mitochondrial morphology, membrane potential maintenance, and apoptosis regulation. It is encoded by the *LETM1* gene, located in the Wolfram syndrome 2 (WFS2) critical region on chromosome 4. and mutations are linked to neurological and metabolic disorders.

Antibodies against LETM1 are widely employed in research to study mitochondrial dysfunction in diseases like cancer, neurodegeneration, and Wolfram syndrome. They are used in techniques such as Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitation to assess protein expression, localization, and interactions. Commercially available LETM1 antibodies are typically validated for specificity in human, mouse, or rat samples.

Studies using these antibodies have revealed LETM1’s interaction with the mitochondrial permeability transition pore and its role in ER-mitochondrial crosstalk. However, users should verify antibody performance due to potential cross-reactivity with unrelated proteins or isoforms.
