The CYP51A1 antibody targets the cytochrome P450 family 51 subfamily A member 1 (CYP51A1), a key enzyme in the sterol biosynthesis pathway. Also known as lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase, CYP51A1 catalyzes the oxidative removal of the 14α-methyl group from lanosterol, a critical step in cholesterol synthesis and membrane structure regulation. This enzyme is evolutionarily conserved and expressed in various tissues, including the liver, adrenal glands, and reproductive organs. Dysregulation of CYP51A1 has been linked to metabolic disorders, congenital glycosylation defects, and certain cancers. In pathogens like fungi, CYP51A1 homologs are targeted by azole antifungals, making human CYP51A1 a reference for studying drug resistance mechanisms.

CYP51A1 antibodies are essential tools for detecting protein expression, localization, and activity in both physiological and pathological contexts.
