The IDI2 antibody targets isopentenyl-diphosphate delta isomerase 2 (IDI2), an enzyme in the mevalonate pathway responsible for synthesizing isoprenoids, essential precursors for cholesterol, steroid hormones, and other lipid-related molecules. IDI2 catalyzes the isomerization of isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP) to dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP), a critical step in generating farnesyl and geranylgeranyl pyrophosphates for protein prenylation. While IDI2 shares functional redundancy with its homolog IDI1. it exhibits tissue-specific expression patterns, with higher levels observed in the brain, liver, and testes.

Research on IDI2 has gained interest due to its potential role in diseases linked to dysregulated cholesterol metabolism, such as neurodegenerative disorders and cancers. Antibodies against IDI2 are primarily used to study its expression, localization, and regulatory mechanisms in cellular and animal models. They enable detection via Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence, aiding investigations into how IDI2 contributes to cellular homeostasis or pathology. Recent studies suggest IDI2 may influence tumor progression by modulating prenylation-dependent signaling pathways. However, its distinct physiological roles compared to IDI1 remain under exploration. IDI2 antibodies thus serve as vital tools for unraveling metabolic adaptations in disease contexts and evaluating therapeutic strategies targeting the mevalonate pathway.
