The ribosomal protein S14 (RPS14) is a critical component of the 40S ribosomal subunit, playing a vital role in rRNA processing and ribosome assembly. Antibodies targeting RPS14 are widely used in research to investigate ribosome biogenesis, protein synthesis regulation, and its association with human diseases. RPS14 gained prominence due to its link to 5q- syndrome, a subtype of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) characterized by deletions in chromosome 5q. Studies show that haploinsufficiency of RPS14 in hematopoietic stem cells disrupts erythroid differentiation, contributing to anemia—a hallmark of this disorder. This discovery positioned RPS14 as both a molecular marker and a therapeutic target for 5q- syndrome.

RPS14 antibodies are essential tools for detecting protein expression levels via techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry. They help elucidate RPS14's subcellular localization (primarily nucleolar and cytoplasmic) and interactions with other ribosome-associated proteins. Recent research also explores RPS14's potential roles beyond ribosome function, including its involvement in p53 activation under ribosomal stress and possible connections to cancer progression. Commercially available RPS14 antibodies are typically validated for specificity across human, mouse, and rat samples, with applications spanning basic molecular biology, clinical diagnostics, and drug development studies targeting ribosomal pathologies.
