Dihydroptéroate synthase (DHPS) antibodies are primarily associated with research on microbial pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance. DHPS is a key enzyme in the folate biosynthesis pathway, essential for microorganisms like bacteria and protozoa (e.g., *Plasmodium*). It catalyzes the condensation of pteridine and para-aminobenzoic acid (pABA) to form dihydropteroate, a precursor for tetrahydrofolate. Since humans lack this pathway, DHPS is a target for sulfonamide antibiotics, which inhibit its activity. Antibodies against DHPS are developed to study enzyme expression, localization, and function in pathogens. They are also used to detect DHPS mutations linked to sulfonamide resistance, particularly in *Pneumocystis jirovecii* (a fungal pathogen in immunocompromised patients) and *Plasmodium* species. In diagnostics, DHPS antibodies aid in identifying pathogen-specific biomarkers or evaluating drug efficacy. Additionally, they contribute to vaccine development by characterizing antigenic properties. Research using DHPS antibodies has highlighted mechanisms of drug resistance, such as amino acid substitutions in the enzyme’s active site, informing strategies to overcome treatment failures. These tools remain critical for understanding microbial adaptation and guiding therapeutic interventions.
